ESA’s ATV-04 cargo craft is re-entered safely as crewed Soyuz TMA-09M spacecraft moves ISS port (Corrected)

Having fulfullled its cargo mission to International Space Station (ISS), the European Space Agency’s (ESA) ATV-04 (Albert Einstein) spacecraft was deliberately re-entered on 2 November at circa 1204 GMT with any remaining debris falling into the Pacific.   Some protected cameras were aboard to record and transmit the re-entry.

At 0833 GMT on 1 November 2013 SOYUZ TMA-09M spacecraft undocked from the International Space Station’s Rassvet mini-research module. Roscosmos’ cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin,  NASA’s astronaut Karen Nyberg and ESA’s astronaut Luca Parmitano were inside it.  The craft redocked with the ISS at Zvezda at 0854 GMT which was now free after ATV-04 had earlier left the aft port of the Zvezda module on 28 October 2013.  When the SOYUZ TMA-09M craft leaves later in November, this will again free up this port for cargo craft arrivals.
